Lenders for Community Development is a financial institution that enables low-income individuals, families, and communities to create economic opportunity, build financial stability, and pursue self-sufficiency. In partnership with banks, philanthropic investors, community-based agencies, and other partner organizations, LCD develops financial products and services to channel resources into Silicon Valley communities traditionally underserved by conventional lenders. LCD serves Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties in California, and can also make loans on a limited basis in contiguous counties. LCD was incorporated in December of 1993, and the company began lending operations in January of 1995. LCD has been certified by the U.S. Dept. of the Treasury and the State of California as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI), and is licensed by the California Department of Corporations as a Finance Lender. Small business lending is targeted to low-income, women and minority-owned business, and to businesses located in low-income census tracts. Affordable housing and community facilities lending is targeted to projects which provide housing or services for low, very low and moderate income households. Individual development accounts are offered to low-income people recruited through a network of non-profit partner agencies.
